Question 27 – C

If we work through each statement we can slowly identify the order of placement.

There are three bakes between Paul and Sue so it is best to write this out as:

Paul/___/___/___/Sue

Mel came 1st, we have been told that the winner’s bake is closest to the trophy at one end of the table.

Trophy/Mel/Paul or Sue/___/___/___/Paul or Sue

Paul is further from the trophy than Nadia so it is impossible for him to have come 2nd. Therefore, we now know that Sue and Paul must have come 2nd and 6th respectively. There are three bakes between the trophy and Mary so she must have come 4th.

Trophy/Mel/Sue/___/Mary/___/Paul

For Tamal’s bake to be closer to Sue’s than Paul’s, he must have come 3rd. We now know that Nadia must have come 5th, which fulfils the statement that Paul is further from the trophy than Nadia.

The final order is therefore:

Trophy/Mel/Sue/Tamal/Mary/Nadia/Paul
